Thycotic Software Partners with BalaBit IT Security to Reduce Opportunity for Privileged Account Abuse
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) May 28, 2014 -- Thycotic Software, provider of smart and effective privileged account management solutions for global organizations, announced today its official technology alliance with BalaBit IT Security through integration of its flagship product, Secret Server, with BalaBit IT Security’s Shell Control BoxTM, an activity monitoring appliance designed to control privileged access to remote servers and networking devices. The technology integration provides users of both products with improved, real-time threat protection and a deeper view into privileged users’ activity.
BalaBit’s Shell Control Box introduces Privileged Activity Monitoring (PAM) through an independent audit layer on customers’ networks. Shell Control Box is an activity monitoring appliance that controls privileged access to remote servers and networking devices and records activities in movie-like audit trails that can be searched and replayed. Through the integration, Shell Control Box will request passwords for server-side authentication from Secret Server, ensuring that privileged account access is recorded securely, without the need for users or administrators to directly access the account password.
“Integrating our Secret Server solution with BalaBit’s Shell Control Box allows IT security executives using both products to further extend the security of their organization’s sensitive data by extending the reach of their activity monitoring capabilities,” said Jonathan Cogley, founder and CEO of Thycotic Software. “Limiting access to account passwords and generating deeper, detailed audit trails will help companies reduce opportunities for malicious activity at a time when insider threats are an ever-growing concern for businesses of all types.”
Shell Control Box users in need of a secure vault to store their passwords and other enterprise secrets will benefit from the integration by reducing the amount of unrestricted power that “privileged users” such as administrators, IT contractors or executives have over sensitive information assets. Administrators looking to extend the activity monitoring capabilities of their Secret Server deployments will have access to highly detailed audit trails and increased visibility into account access needed to generate ad-hoc forensic analyses or pre-defined reports.
“Our ultimate goal is to provide our customers with the tools and visibility needed to ensure the security of their important data and to provide clear, actionable information to prevent malicious user actions,” said Zoltán Györkő, CEO of BalaBit IT Security. “Through partnership and integration with Thycotic’s password management solution, Shell Control Box users are better positioned to avoid the headaches and resource costs associated with addressing a data breach by removing the need for employees to have direct access to important account passwords. Shell Control Box not only increases oversight into privileged user actions, but can send an alert and block the connection in the event of suspicious activity.”
