Tibetan Buddhist Master to Speak at Town Hall Seattle July 3, 2015
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 23, 2015 -- Garchen Rinpoche will present a talk, "Living a Meaningful Life" at Town Hall Seattle from 7-8:30pm. Doors open at 6pm. Town Hall Seattle is located at 1119 Eighth Avenue, at Seneca Street, Seattle, WA 98101. The venue is ADA accessible.
Living a meaningful life is one of today’s most sought-after objectives, and, according to Tibetan Buddhist teacher Garchen Rinpoche, it’s something anyone can achieve. Garchen Rinpoche’s personal life has been filled with both turmoil and triumph. He’ll share this history–how he was imprisoned for 20 years and sent to a forced labor camp during China’s Cultural Revolution–and how it informed his teachings of compassion. Featured in the films “Yogis of Tibet” and “For The Benefit of All Beings,” Garchen Rinpoche has dedicated his life to aiding others. He’ll give insight into how, despite personal suffering, anyone can use adversity to benefit both themselves and others.
The event is hosted by Drikung Seattle which Garchen Rinpoche founded in 2013 at the request of local students. Drikung Seattle board member Karen Smith says, “Rinpoche is such an inspiration to many because though he suffered so much physically during twenty years in prison and hard labor camp he has absolutely no bitterness, resentment or anger and nothing but love. He even says he is grateful for the experience because he met his teacher Khenpo Munsel in prison. Whenever I feel discouraged I watch the DVD about his life story and it’s like hitting the reset button.” She continues, "Rinpoche turned 78 in April but he hasn't slowed down at all. He travels the world continuously to teach because he has such a sense of urgency to share the Buddha's message of loving kindness and compassion."
Rinpoche's teacher, Khenpo Munsel, was astonished by Rinpoche's vast achievement. Khenpo Munsel called him "an emanation of a Bodhisattva," a being completely dedicated to the welfare of others. The Bodhisattva’s attitude is summarized in this quote from the 16th Karmapa, "You keep going. That is the bodhisattva’s way. As long as it benefits even one being you have to, without any sense of discouragement, go on.”

Event note: American Sign Language interpretation will be provided by Rainstar Barger. There is a scholarship ticket option available, which allows patrons to donate as they are able. Admission is free for monks, nuns, and other clergy. All proceeds from the talk will benefit Drikung Seattle.
