Tidewater Physical Therapy to Hold Series of CPR Training For Coaches Courses Beginning Feb. 6.
Newport News, VA (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- The incidents of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in youth athletes are on the rise and often the first symptom of an undetected heart abnormality.
Tidewater Physical Therapy wants to prepare coaches to be the first line of treatment should an SCA occur on the field.
At 6 p.m. on Feb. 6, Tidewater Physical Therapy will hold the first of four CPR Training for Coaches. The courses will take place at the Tidewater Physical Therapy Oyster Point Clinic and Performance Center, located at 751 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News.
Led by Tidewater Physical Therapy’s certification team – Mike Satterley, PT, DPT, CIMT, CSCS and Katie Benick, MS Exercise Science, CSCS – participants will learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults and children, including the use of AEDs, and will receive certification upon completion.
This course also aligns with OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Program.
Why offer the course now? Every three days in the U.S., a young athlete dies from a cardiac incident.
Fast and effective bystander treatment – including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) – is crucial to ensuring that young athletes survive to receive professional medical services. The American Heart Association reports that CPR provided immediately after an SCA can double or triple the chance of survival.
Quite simply, the courses at Tidewater Physical Therapy will focus on First Aid, CPR, and AED to provide coaches the skills to save lives.
In addition to the Feb. 6 course, the CPR training will also be offered Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. and May 17 and Nov. 15 at 9 a.m.
