TIDO Customization Tools Unveiled at Music Encoding Conference
LONDON, UK (PRWEB UK) 9 June 2016 -- Tido (UK) Ltd announced today that it has released its first set of Tido customization tools for developers, musicologists and researchers, exploring new ways to render musical scores and to make notation more responsive to musicians’ needs.
Senior software developer at Tido, Zoltan Komives made the announcement at the recent MEI conference in Montreal, clarifying that Tido’s MEI customization - a music encoding format developed using the MEI framework - is now available under an open source.
"We’ve been developing our platform for sometime now and thought it would be worthwhile for the wider community if we shared our learnings about MEI being a powerful solution," said Zoltan Komives, "We want to provide tools and collaborate with developers and researchers to fast-track the solving the issues around dynamic notation development."
Tido Music is building a platform for the discovery and performance of music. At the heart of this platform is a renderer for encoded music notation using MEI’s (Music Encoding Initiative) open source framework. The startup chose MEI for its flexibility and its semantic properties. These support the development of dynamic notation connected to all the facets of music (audio, video, text) in order to bring sheet music alive.
Tido was the first company to use MEI in a commercial application with the release of their ‘mastering the piano with Lang Lang’ app last autumn. Further research and development within Tido is currently underway, with the release of further products featuring dynamic notation late this year.
MEI was created by Perry Roland (University of Virginia) and further developed by Roland, Johannes Kepper (University of Paderborn), and members of the MEI community with the financial assistance of the National Endowment for the Humanities (U.S.) and the German Research Foundation. MEI is hosted by the Mainz Academy of Science and Literature. The MEI community is comprised of technologists, librarians, historians and theorists who endeavour to advance the semantic encoding of music.
The Tido Music app for iPad is launching with Piano Masterworks in September 2016, using MEI. The app delivers dynamic sheet music layered with audio, video and text to allow musicians to feel more engaged with the music.
