Tim J. Delaney Design Imagines a New Waterside Destination for Los Angeles
San Pedro, CA (PRWEB) April 06, 2016 -- Standing on the future site of the $100 million San Pedro Public Market (phase I), Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti revealed the first public plans for the premiere waterside development to be built by LA Waterfront Alliance, a joint venture of respected Los Angeles developer Wayne Ratkovich and Jerico Development. Designed by Tim J. Delaney Design, with partner TFO Architecture, the new centerpiece of The Port of L.A. is destined to become a new Southern California landmark and must-see attraction. The creative design on the project is the culmination of over two years of work by Tim J. Delaney Design.
Working with the team at The Ratkovich Company and local San Pedro company Jerico Development, Tim Delaney and Matthew Flynn of Tim J. Delaney Design crafted a vision for the 16 acre site that would tell the rich story of San Pedro, The Port of L.A., and the coast. The result is a muti-layered modern mix of industrial-inspired structures, textural materials, integrated transportation, and design that leverages spectacular waterside views. http://www.tjddinc.com
Former Disney Imagineer for 34 years, Tim J. Delaney lead creative on the project, “There are so few places in Los Angeles where you can create a new place to dine, shop and gather right on the water’s edge. Our goal was to leverage the views, embrace the kinetic industrial nature of the Port, and honor the rich history of San Pedro. Although it will be new from the ground up, it will feel like it’s always been there.”
Tim J. Delaney Design’s creative vision for the destination development include three distinct and complementary neighborhoods: The Marketplace, Discovery Sea Park, and City Park. “We wanted to program the waterside site to unfold in a surprising manner, with guests discovering something unexpected around every building. We also wanted guests to connect with the place like the best city markets, parks and retail experiences around the world.”
Creative Director for Tim J. Delaney Design, Matthew Flynn, believes the success of the design is in the project’s ability to deliver multiple experiences to a wide range of guests, “We had to create a place and spectrum of experiences that would connect with a wide audience -- from nearby parents with children, locals, Port staff, to tourists and the entire greater Los Angeles area. We also had to transform the character of the place, to respect the past while clearly establishing San Pedro Public Market as a completely fresh start for the former Port’s O’ Call area.”
Scheduled to break ground next year, the first phase of San Pedro Public Market should open in 2020.
