Tips and Advice on How to Save Time and Money by Combining Diagnostic Medical Tests

According to research conducted at Duke University, combining medical imaging treatments resulted in achieving the lowest misclassification rate within neuro psychological testing. Misclassification is a growing concern in disease pathogenesis:
"Misdiagnosis in very early stages of Alzheimer's is a significant problem, as there are more than 100 conditions that can mimic the disease. In people with mild memory complaints, our accuracy is barely better than chance. Given that the definitive gold standard for diagnosing Alzheimer's is autopsy, we need a better way to look into the brain," said P. Murali Doraiswamy, MBBS, professor of psychiatry and medicine at Duke and study author.
In addition to mammogram/tomosynthesis and X-ray/MRI combinations, other diagnostic medical imaging tests that complement each other well are PET/CT scans, PET/MRI and X-ray/ultrasound. Patients should always talk to their doctors about the possibilities of combining these tests and understand whether doing so could result in time and cost savings. How to prepare for these exams:
• For all Magnetic Resonances scans:
The patient should refrain from wearing clothing with metallic ornaments such as hair clips, zippers and buttons.
The patient must continue with their regular medication regimen, if any.
• For all Magnetic Resonances scans with contrast:
Patients should fax or bring blood work results for BUN and Creatine (your physicians should give you the prescription for the blood work).
• For MRCP:
Patients should not drink or eat anything six hours before the test.
