Tireless Proponent of Mediation Steven Spence Announces Membership in Mediation.com
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) December 31, 2013 -- After more than two decades of pursuing solutions for clients via litigation over the course of more than 60 jury trials, Steven Spence had an epiphany: Mediation, he realized, is often a much more effective and less stressful resolution process. Always seeking to serve his clients’ interests in the most effective way possible, he began to slowly shift his focus from litigation to mediation, culminating in the founding of The Mediation Alternative in Indianapolis. At the same time, he has become one of mediation’s biggest proponents in Indiana and the country, recently joining Mediation.com in recognition of that portal’s rise in prominence.
“I’m a true believer,” said Mr. Spence. “I’m the lawyer who spent decades in court fighting tooth and nail for his clients, and then realized there was a better way - a faster, less contentious and more affordable way. You can’t serve the best interests of your clients and not offer them mediation as an alternative. It’s impossible. I try to boost the profile of mediation every chance I get, because I truly believe it’s the best possible approach to most disputes.”
Mr. Spence has personally mediated over 2000 cases in both domestic and civil disputes and has also acted as the neutral arbitrator on three-arbitrator panels as well as the sole arbitrator. He has spoken on issues involving mediation both regionally and throughout Indiana. He has also been a frequent assistant trainer for civil and domestic mediation training (both basic and advanced) throughout the State. Mr. Spence is proud to be one of three lead trainers to conduct the first “Civil to Domestic Crossover Training” class offered in Indiana in 2006. He currently acts as co-lead trainer in said training on an annual basis. He is also currently an Associate Professor at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis teaching a 400-level course in Negotiation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
A graduate of the Indiana University Law School, Mr. Spence is registered to mediate civil and domestic disputes by the State of Indiana. He was chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Indiana Bar Association from 2003 to 2004 and was President of the Indiana Association of Mediators (IAM) from 1996 to 1997.
