Tokai University Medical School Initiates Japan’s First “Hawaii Medical Educational Program” with University of Hawaii-John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Isehara City, Japan (PRWEB UK) 30 October 2015 -- Tokai University Medical School in Japan announces the adoption of the “Hawaii Medical Educational Program” as part of the Tokai University Medical School curriculum.
Tokai University Medical School is one of Japan’s largest private medical schools. The University has announced the implementation of Japan’s first US-style “participation based clinical education” (medical students participate in patient care as student-doctors) by signing an agreement with the University of Hawaii-John A. Burns School of Medicine to adopt the “Hawaii Medical Educational Program” as part of the Tokai University Medical School curriculum.
This new program enables Tokai University School of Medicine to make a greater contribution to globalization of Japan’s medical schools by educating medical students in a diverse and globally minded environment.
David Lassner, the President of Hawaii University says: “This groundbreaking partnership expands the long term relationship between Tokai University and the University of Hawaii and marks a major step forward in internationalizing medical education in Japan and Hawaii.”
Details of the Hawaii Medical Educational Program (HMEP)
1. Tokai University Medical School/HMEP will provide 1st to 3rd year medical students with special elective classes weekly, in which global items such as medical English, art and science of medicine are taught; after that 10 to 20 students will be selected to enter the HMEP course.
2. These students will be sent to Hawaii for 1 to 2 months to take lectures at the Clinical Clerkship Preparatory Program in Hawaii (HCCPP).
3. The participants of the program will attend the 5th year clinical training at hospitals offering US-style clinical training in Japan.
4. Qualified participants will be eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USLME) Step 1 in their 5th year of medical school, and Step 2 in their 6th year.
