Top Artists Support 1% for the Planet with Exclusive Book & Music Release
Burlington, VT (PRWEB) March 17, 2015 -- A new book and music project titled Going Out Is Going In brings together an extraordinary group of top photographers and musicians to support 1% for the Planet – a global network bringing together businesses that donate one percent of sales to nonprofit organizations focused on the environment.
The book, curated and edited by Jeff Johnson and James Joiner and produced by Patagonia, features work by some of today’s leading lifestyle, adventure, and outdoor photographers: Andy Mann, Becca Skinner, Ben Moon, Chris Burkard, Forest Woodward, James Q. Martin, Sam Horine, Tamara Hastie, as well as Jeff Johnson and James Joiner.
“1% for the Planet is fortunate to have friends and ambassadors like Jeff and James, and the 50+ artists who gave their time and talent to this project,” said Melody Badgett, managing director of 1% for the Planet. “Their images and music resonate, inspiring us all to give back to the planet we love.”
Those who buy the book, available at Patagonia.com and in select Patagonia stores, will receive a free digital playlist download featuring songs generously donated by artists like Modest Mouse, The Head & The Heart, Deer Tick, The Hold Steady, Jack Johnson, Bahamas, G Love & Special Sauce, and many more internationally renowned acts (full list below).
The project aims to raise awareness for 1% for the Planet. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book go to the organization, available in a limited edition run of 3,000 copies.

1% for the Planet is a global network of businesses that donate one percent of annual sales directly to environmental and sustainability nonprofit organizations. Over 1,200 member companies in 44 countries give back to this big blue planet through more than 3,600 nonprofit partners.
Started in 2002 by Patagonia founder and owner Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet helps people buy better products and protect the planet on which we work and play. Going Out Is Going In officially releases at SXSW today in conjunction with a 7:30 p.m. event at Patagonia’s Austin store featuring musical guests Christopher Paul Stelling, Quiet Life and Avers. Patagonia will also host an event in New York City celebrating the project on April 9 at the company’s Bowery Surf Shop.
Patagonia, headquartered in Ventura, Calif., gave $6.6 million in grants to 770 grassroots environmental groups around the world last year alone through its one percent giving program, which inspired 1% for the Planet’s creation.
