Top Bidder of SAE Foundation Auction Takes Delivery of First 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport
Warrendale, PA (PRWEB) January 02, 2014 -- Cadillac presented the first 2014 CTS Vsport to Tim and Pat Whited of Nederland, Colo., today. The Whited’s won the vehicle by providing the winning bid of $120,000 during the Barrett-Jackson Hot August Nights Car Auction in Reno, NV, on August 9.
100 percent of the auction’s proceeds, in addition to generous gifts from other sponsors from the evening, benefit the SAE Foundation and will support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
“We are thrilled to receive the first production CTS Vsport,” the Whiteds said. “But, we are more excited to support the SAE Foundation and its mission to increase student participation and achievement in science, technology, engineering and math. Such skills are crucial to helping today’s students become tomorrow’s engineers.”
Chris Ciuca, Director of Pre-Professional Education for SAE International, talked about the importance of support from engaged citizens like the Whited’s. “During a time when the U.S. is experiencing a crisis in STEM, support from individuals like Tim and Pat and companies like General Motors is crucial in helping us to reach more kids and get them excited about science and math,” said Ciuca. “SAE International is an innovative leader in delivering relevant STEM education. The A World in Motion curriculum engages kids as early as Kindergarten in the Engineering Design Experience to guide student exploration. SAE International is leading the STEM charge by engaging industry and education in partnership to produce the next generation of science and technology professionals.”
General Motors donated the Cadillac in May where Mary Barra, current General Motors executive vice president, Global Product Development and CEO-elect, was honored with the SAE Foundation’s 2013 Industry Leadership Award. Barra was the first woman recipient in the 25-year history of the award. This vehicle donation is part of GM’s on-going support of the SAE Foundation. GM has long sponsored the SAE Foundation and SAE’s STEM outreach programs. In addition to financial support from the GM Foundation, GM provides more than 1,500 mentors and volunteers who help reach nearly 85,000 students participating in SAE’s A World in Motion K-12 programs.
"We are extremely grateful to GM and the GM Foundation, the outstanding team at Barrett-Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Whited, and McCaddon Cadillac of Boulder for their incredible generosity and commitment to STEM education in the US,” said Lori Gatmaitan, Director of the SAE Foundation. “Collectively, they are helping to deliver quality STEM programming in the classroom and helping to ensure the next generation of professionals has the skills and education necessary to compete on a global basis.”
