Top Bloggers Visit Food for the Hungry’s Work in Guatemala
Phoenix, Ariz. (PRWEB) July 29, 2013 -- In an effort to give a first-hand perspective to millions of readers around the world, Food for the Hungry (FH) is launching its third international blogger trip, August 4-9, 2013, to Guatemala. Five top U.S. bloggers and a leading humanitarian aid photographer will embark on a journey in the Alta Verapaz region where FH provides much needed training and resources through child sponsorship. A leading economist recently confirmed the positive impact of child sponsorship.

FH has a strong focus on curbing malnutrition among children in Guatemala. Guatemala has the fourth highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world.
FH began working in Guatemala in 1976 in response to a devastating earthquake. Today, FH-Guatemala has led the way in developing FH’s “child-focused” community transformation model which is implemented all over the world in communities where FH works. The model puts priority on the needs children and affirms that the well-being of children is the indicator of the well-being of any society.
Throughout the trip, each blogger will write about their experiences of meeting Guatemalan people and seeing innovative solutions for overcoming malnutrition and poverty—as well as introduce some of the children they meet along the way. The group hopes to raise awareness of FH’s child sponsorships by engaging their readers in a ground-level perspective of the daily lives of Guatemalan children.
Writing about the trip, Michelle Sarabia said, “One thing I know is that this experience is exactly what God has planned for me. To see the world through His eyes. I don’t know the needs of...the children that we will meet but I know they each need to be loved and given justice…”
The bloggers will also be hosting a live twitter chat (#fhbloggers) at 8 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, August 6, allowing people around the world to ask the bloggers questions about what they have seen and experienced up to that point, as well as win prizes from the areas in which bloggers are traveling. The blogger Twitter chat from FH Blogger trips to Ethiopia and Bangladesh put #fhbloggers and the respective countries on Twitter’s coveted trending topics list.
