About West Surrey Racing
WSR began in 1981 as a British Formula 3 Race Team. In the ten years that followed Dick Bennetts mentored five British F3 Champions; Palmer, Senna, Gugelmin, Hakkinen and Barrichello.
In 1996 the team moved into the BTCC and ran the Works Ford Mondeos until 1998 when WSR expanded to include design and development. The final years of the Super Touring Cars saw WSR running the Works Honda Accords.
In 2002, when the BTCC was revamped, WSR took on the Works MG Rover ZS' in a deal that encompassed design, build, develop and race. WSR further expanded into circuit design and prototype engineering.
WSR moved onto the BMW, Team RAC, from 2007 to 2009 when Colin Turkington took the BTCC Driver's title.
