Gloversville, New York (PRWEB) June 05, 2015 -- Transitions, a supportive Apprenticeship program designed to advance college and career success for high school graduates and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, learning differences and medical impairments, is hosting "Understanding and Supporting Students with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities: Practical Interventions for the Classroom, Workplace and Planning for Future Success." This workshop will be presented by Dr. Dean Mooney, Ph.D. NCSP, a psychologist and the founder of Maple Leaf Clinic, on Wednesday, June 24, 2015.
The term “nonverbal learning disabilities (NLD)” encompasses a specific pattern of neuropsychological assets and deficits that impacts a person’s success in academic and social settings. In his presentation, Dr. Mooney will give an overview of NLD and how this diagnosis can affect a student in the classroom setting, at home and at work. He will offer comprehensive and proactive ideas, strategies and interventions designed to maximize the potential of diagnosed students. Also included in the presentation will be a discussion of challenges faced by a person with NLD in the sphere of relationships and social skills, sharing of practical suggestions, exploration of case studies, information on developmental manifestations and identification, and emphasis on interventions for the classroom and workplace and planning for future success. There will be a question and answer session after the presentation.

About Dr. Dean Mooney, Ph.D. NCSP
Dr. Dean Mooney is a licensed clinical psychologist, a licensed school psychologist in the state of Vermont and a nationally certified school psychologist. As a writer, Dr. Mooney has co-authored Nonverbal Learning Disabilities: A Guide to School Success (May 2006), Nonverbal Learning Disabilities: A Guide to School Success (Teacher’s Manual) (September 2007), A Train Ride to Grandma’s (With NO Chocolate Donut!) Transitions is a supportive Apprenticeship for young men and women with autism spectrum disorders including Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, visual or hearing impairments, medical conditions and other learning differences who want to attend college and/or prepare for a career, but may require academic, social, medical and/or emotional support.
