Transportation Trade Group Announces New Petition to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to Protect Small Businesses and American Families from Government Overreach.
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) June 01, 2017 -- The petition launched by the Small Business in Transportation Coalition ("SBTC"), a South Florida-based non-profit transportation trade group, which represents small players in the transportation industry across America, including truck drivers, calls on Americans to endorse its request to the Federal Trade Commission, to protect Small Businesses and American families in accordance with its promise not to unduly burden legitimate business activity.
SBTC President James Lamb issued a brief statement today announcing that the group had launched the petition due to a pattern of regulatory issues plaguing small business owners and their families.
"I am sure most Americans will agree that it is high time for the U.S. Government to step up and protect Small Businesses and American Families from overzealous regulatory actions," Lamb said.
Lamb has enlisted the support of the Small Business Administration (SBA) in his campaign to protect small businesses, including his own for profit-business that has experienced government overreach first hand. At Lamb's request, the SBA Ombudsman recently contacted the FTC on his behalf. The SBA National Ombudsman's mission is to assist small businesses when they experience excessive or unfair federal regulatory enforcement actions, such as repetitive audits or investigations, excessive fines, penalties, threats, retaliation or other unfair enforcement action by a federal agency.
According to the FTC website, the agency works "to protect consumers by preventing anti-competitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices, enhancing informed consumer choice and public understanding of the competitive process, and accomplishing this without unduly burdening legitimate business activity." The FTC is normally headed by five Commissioners, nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, each serving a seven-year term. No more than three Commissioners can be of the same political party. The President chooses one Commissioner to act as Chairman. However, there are currently three Commissioner vacancies according to the FTC website.
Last week, SBTC filed the petition with FTC Commissioners Maureen K. Ohlhausen, and Terrell McSweeny, and FTC Inspector General Roslyn A. Mazer in the hopes the agency will take proactive action to protect the interests of small businesses. Lamb said he believes "there is clearly a pattern of questionable dealings with small businesses and American families worthy of the FTC’s attention."
