Trash 2 Treasure's Trash 2 Art Celebration & Exhibition Opens at Studio 18 in South Florida Friday 12/6/13
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) November 27, 2013 -- Trash to Treasure, Broward County’s “open to all” creative reuse center, is excited to announce our annual “Trash-2-Art” show, an innovative art competition and exhibit designed to spread the word about the importance of reducing consumption and reusing materials in celebration of Planet Earth. Trash to Treasure, which opened in May 2007, is a division of South Florida Reuse & Recycling Institute, Inc. a 501-c 3 not-for-profit organization. T2T, as it's affectionately known, operates a Creative Reuse Center bursting with potential treasures which would have been thrown away by businesses and residents, ending up in our landfills.
According to Executive Director Nanette Saylor, "Every year people of all ages are delighted and inspired by the creative energy featured at our Annual Trash 2 Art Exhibition. Call this by any name -- upcycling, recycling, re-purposing. It's innovative, fun and entertaining. And on a more serious note, once you've seen these amazing creations, you can't help but have a new appreciation for your trash.You'll definitely be re-thinking how to make better use of what you've got and reconsidering how much stuff you really need."
The exhibition runs from December 3, 2013 - December 27, 2013 at Studio 18 In The Pines at 1101 Poinciana Drive, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33025. The Opening Celebration will be held on December 6th, from 7 to 9 PM, in conjunction with Studio 18's monthly open house. Complimentary refreshments, including a wine bar, light faire and live music will be provided. South Florida Chamber Ensemble, flutist, Laura Sue- The Silver Nightingale and jazz musician, Steve Haley will entertain.
Trash to Treasure Creative Reuse Center's Trash 2 Art Exhibit has grown into South Florida premier reuse, repurpose and recycle art show. The “Trash-2-Art” competition is open to South Florida residents with judging based on the creative reuse of a variety of materials. Entries are welcome from children, K-12, and adult amateur and professional artists from throughout the community. All family friendly content is accepted, of any media, with the requirement that the finished work must be created from 75% scrap materials.
This year's show will be judged by artist George Gadson, best known for his commemorative bronze Super Bowl scultures and his 2008 White House Christmas Ornament, Robin Haines Merrill, Founder of Mission Gifts Fair Trade Store and Gallerist/Artist at The Upper Room Art Gallery, and Casey Eckles, Co-Founder Trash to Treasure Creative Reuse Center. In addition to recognition, monetary prizes will be awarded for category winners for students (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12), amateur artist and professional artist. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award based on voting at the celebration. Artwork will be available for sale with a portion of the proceeds benefitting South Florida Reuse & Recycling Institute, Inc., d/b/a Trash to Treasure Creative Reuse Center, a Florida registered 501c3 non-profit charitable organization.
In addition to the support from the City of Pembroke Pines funding for this project is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council. Corporate sponsors include Drawing Conclusions LLC, Emerald Isle Recycling, GreenScene Consulting, A volunteer core helps to curate and organize the event and additional support is always welcome. Registration forms for “Trash-2-Art” can be found on the Trash to Treasure website http://www.trash2treasurefl.org. For non-members, the entrance fee is $50 for adults and $25 for children who are not members. For T2T members, the fee is $25 adults and $15 for children. Ongoing Partnership opportunities are also still available for organizations hoping to reach our creative, socially consious, environmentally focused audience.
The Trash to Treasure Creative Reuse Center is located at 1100 NW 53rd Street in Fort Lauderdale. The Center also offers presentations for the public who are looking for new ways to creatively re-use materials. Current items available in the Center’s warehouse include scrap metal, tile, glass, art supplies, varieties of paper, yards of rich fabrics, wallpaper, books, computer disks and CDs, costume jewelry, buttons, tiles, caps, beads, and so much more.
