Travelers Make Positive Impact in Cayucos with Stewardship Travel
Cayucos, CA (PRWEB) January 26, 2015 -- Cayucos is celebrating Costal Discovery and Stewardship Travel from January 23 to February 28. Stewardship Travel is the next big step in eco-tourism and eco-conscious travel and is being embraced fully by the town of Cayucos, CA. Stewardship Travel experiences allow travelers to leave a little piece of themselves in the location they’re visiting by making a positive impact.
On the heels of the popular travel trend of curating authentic travel experiences, the Stewardship Travel programs are designed to add an element of “doing good and feeling good” to vacations. Different experiences and volunteer opportunities allow visitors to learn more deeply about the area they are visiting and to give back.
"Visitors that engage in a Stewardship Travel experience get a real, honest, feel for the places that they are visiting and a deeper connection to others, nature, and history,” said Di Strachan, Director of the Stewardship Travel Program and Positive Futures. “Sometimes while being a tourist you float on the surface of the place you are visiting. Being part of a Stewardship Travel activity is like pulling the veil away from the tourism industry and you relate to people in meaningful ways.”
Stewardship opportunities in Cayucos include visiting a natural, cultural or historic site. Visitors can take a kayaking wildlife and trash clean up tour, plant seedlings in a native garden, visit a historic lighthouse, make new friends at a beach cleanup or become a "citizen scientist" at a nature center. Each volunteer opportunity meets the Stewardship Travel criteria of activities that lead to learning and to a deeper understanding of the area.
“If you are engaging in a Stewardship Travel activity you meet local residents that care and you may even end up working along side of them to help restore and/or conserve the beach, trail, or preserve,” added Di Strachan. “Stewardship Travelers learn more in depth about the regions they visit and feel good about themselves and their contributions while on vacation.”
Stewardship opportunities are good for all ages and are family friendly. For a list of opportunities check out the Stewardship Travel page at visitcayucosca.com.
