Traverse City Introduces New Tourism Certification Program
Traverse City, MI (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- The Grand Traverse Area Hospitality Association and the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau Education Foundation have established a training program to familiarize front line hospitality employees with the community's attractions, activities and recreational opportunities.
The new "TC Certified" program is a self-administered online instructional tool consisting of short quizzes on six topics, such as food and dining, outdoor recreation and children's activities. Quiz answers are located within the Traverse City Tourism website.
Leaders of the two organizations initiated the program in response to a growing awareness that Traverse City is increasingly drawing visitors from around the world. To meet the rising demand for better information about the community and its resources, they decided the first step should be to train members of their own industry to better assist guests.
“The people who live and work here know what a great area this is, but some may not be aware of all the national recognition and awards this area has won in just the past five years,” said hospitality association president Melanie Olsen. "This training is designed to improve the guest experience by building awareness about what makes our area so special.”
Employees who successfully complete the program receive a "TC Certified" certificate and button they can wear on the job. Businesses where 80 percent of front-line staff are certified will themselves receive a certificate attesting to their their commitment to staff training.
