Traverse City named one of "Top 10 Small Cities on Social Media"
Traverse City, MI (PRWEB) June 15, 2015 -- Despite its small size, this Northern Michigan resort community of 15,000 is in the big leagues when it comes to promoting itself on Facebook, Twitter and other social media, according to a report released this week by Social Media Delivered.
The Dallas-based firm named Traverse City one of its “Top 10 Small Cities on Social Media” based on the work done by its destination marketing organization, Traverse City Tourism. Other Top 10 small cities included Asheville, Key West, Sedona and Jackson Hole.
“Michigan’s premiere vacation destination with beaches, 40+ wineries, 12+ craft breweries and distilleries, shopping, championship golf, arts and great dining, Traverse City uses their platforms to keep residents up-to-date on local happenings and to encourage visitors to stop by,” wrote SMD’s Michael Babick.
Earlier this year, Traverse City Tourism’s social media efforts led to the city’s listing among the country’s “Top 100 Cities on Twitter” by another social media company, Encore Alert of Arlington, VA. The recognition was welcomed by Traverse City Tourism’s social media manager, Coryn Briggs.
“As a smaller tourism destination it is easy to be overlooked by the big boys,” said Briggs. “We continually strive for best social media practices and always aim for authentic engagement with our community of fans. It’s exciting to see the success of these efforts recognized in these reports.”
Organized in 1981 as the Traverse City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Traverse City Tourism is a nonprofit corporation that serves as the area’s official Destination Marketing Organization. Its focused mission is to stimulate economic growth through the attraction of convention business and leisure tourism development.
