TrellisWare Selected to Develop U.S. Army’s Next Generation Narrowband Soldier Radio Waveform
San Diego, California (PRWEB) November 29, 2016 -- TrellisWare Technologies, Inc. (http://www.trellisware.com), the leading innovator of tactical networking solutions, today announced a contract award for the development of the next generation spectrally efficient (narrowband) mode of the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) for the U.S. Army. The selection was made by the U.S. Army Contracting Command‐New Jersey (ACC‐NJ), through the NSC in collaboration with Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Emerging Capabilities and Prototyping (ODASD, EC&P), under a Section 815 Prototype Other Transaction Agreement (OTA).
This new SRW Narrowband (SRW NB) capability will be developed, prototyped, and field tested on Army ground tactical radios over a three year period. SRW NB will operate in VHF, UHF and a reduced part of L-band, allowing the Army to effectively transition out of the AWS-3 portion of L-band. This spectrum transition benefits the Army by providing reliable voice, position location information, and data for every soldier using a significantly smaller allocation of RF spectrum while simultaneously addressing the needs for improved range, network scalability, and robustness against electronic warfare (EW) threats.
TrellisWare, known for robust waveform physical layer signal processing and the most scalable, reliable alternative MANET technologies, is supported by Rockwell Collins, Inc. and Thales Defense & Security, Inc. in this effort. Rockwell Collins and Thales bring substantial and complementary expertise in Army tactical radio platform development, security architectures, waveform implementation, and porting to radio platforms.
“TrellisWare is in a unique position as a third party waveform developer to make sure that SRW NB waveform can be implemented by all platform providers in a fair and equitable manner, and we are thrilled to have been chosen to develop this crucial new capability for the Army,” said Tom Carter, President and CEO of TrellisWare. “We are pleased to team with Rockwell Collins and Thales on this exciting program to lead the way on next generation communications for our soldiers.”
