Tri Delta Raises $5.6 Million in One Year to Support Lifesaving Mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®
(PRWEB) August 07, 2013 -- Delta Delta Delta Fraternity is proud to announce that during the 2012-13 academic year its collegiate and alumnae chapters have raised $5.6 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, which is leading the way in understanding, treating and defeating childhood cancer. This is an increase from the previous year’s fundraising total of $4.2 million.
This $5.6 million donation is part of the Fraternity’s latest pledge, made in 2010, to raise $15 million in five years for St. Jude. To date, the campaign has raised more than $14.2 million, putting Tri Delta on pace to shatter this goal. Since Tri Delta formed a national partnership with St. Jude in 1999, more than $25.6 million has been raised for the kids at St. Jude. Because of campaigns like this, no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.
“When it comes to supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the members of Tri Delta aim high and consistently over deliver,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “What they’ve done is truly remarkable, and their results are exceeded only by their commitment to the kids of St. Jude and our gratitude for their partnership.”
Tri Delta had the following eight collegiate chapters each raise more than $100,000 in just one year, a record set for the Fraternity: University of Arkansas, University of Mississippi, University of Alabama, Louisiana State University, Mississippi State University, University of South Carolina, University of Texas and Texas A&M University.
Tri Delta is also pleased to recognize its top collegiate chapters from three categories who raised the most money during the 2012-13 academic year. The gold group includes chapters with more than 131 members, the silver group includes chapters with 91-130 members, and the blue group includes chapters with 90 members or less. In the gold group, the University of Arkansas raised $168,772; in the silver group, the University of Southern Mississippi raised $67,650; and in the blue group, Illinois State University raised $36,810. The flags for these schools will hang in the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor at the hospital in recognition for all their support.
Additionally, the organization had three alumnae chapters that reached new heights in their fundraising efforts: the St. Lawrence Alumnae Chapter raised $69,200; the New York City Alumnae Chapter raised $36,800; and the Fredericksburg, Va., Alumnae Chapter raised $15,700. Tri Delta alumnae and collegiate members also participated in the 2012 St. Jude Give thanks. Walk.™ and raised more than $130,000 from that single event.
Fraternity President Phyllis Durbin Grissom, Southern Methodist, said, “The women of Tri Delta are passionate about the work St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does, and that passion pushes our members to not only meet, but exceed our fundraising goals for every event. We plan to continue that momentum in the coming year as we near our $15 million goal.”
This is the third fundraising goal Tri Delta has set for St. Jude in the past 11 years and is dedicated to the naming of one of the St. Jude Specialty Clinics, which ensures patients receive expert care for specific needs. In 2010, Tri Delta completed its $10 million goal, six years ahead of schedule, which went towards naming the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor. Tri Delta expects to reach its $15 million campaign goal in the coming year, completing the pledge a full year ahead of schedule. Following the completion of the $15 million goal, Tri Delta will be announcing a new campaign for St. Jude and will continue to support the hospital with its fundraising efforts.
