Trident University International Health Sciences Dean, Vice Provost to Present at the Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium in June
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) June 08, 2015 -- Dr. Holly Orozco, Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Dean of the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education at Trident University International (Trident), has been selected as a speaker at the Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium on June 11-12, 2015 in San Diego, CA.
Dr. Orozco’s presentation is titled “Effective Leadership: The ‘Self-Developed’ Leader” and is set for the morning of June 11th. Dr. Orozco will be addressing an audience that is primarily women serving within the armed forces and will focus her presentation on self-development attributes that many successful women leaders possess.
“Self-development includes activities such as: setting goals to expand one’s world view through education, and recreating one’s capacity to lead through skill building and mentoring. Women tend to practice self-development and can harness these attributes in leadership roles,” – Dr. Holly Orozco, Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Dean of the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education.
In addition to her academic leadership roles at Trident, Dr. Orozco is currently serving as President Elect of the Governing Council of the Southern California Public Health Association (SCPHA), as part of a three-year term which includes serving as President in 2016, and Immediate Past President the following year. In 2014, she was elected to serve as Vice President of the Governing Council of the SCPHA. Additionally, she continues to serve on the National Board of Education for the American Public Health Association.
Dr. Orozco has over 10 years of progressive leadership within institutions of higher education. In addition to teaching and academic leadership positions held within higher education, Dr. Orozco has over 20 years of professional and leadership experiences in public health. Just prior to joining Trident University Dr. Orozco served as the “Senior Advisor for Substance Abuse Policy” within former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano’s Office. Dr. Orozco has worked with numerous communities and community leaders, tribal entities, military leaders, politicians, legislators, city administrators and law enforcement leaders to implement sustainable solutions for public health issues.
Throughout both her career as an academic leader in higher education and public health practitioner, Dr. Orozco has seized and excelled in leadership roles. Leveraging her positions, she has been an agent of change for public health causes about which she is passionate, including reducing drug and alcohol related problems in communities through policy change and community mobilization, and resolving health equality issues for women and children.
Dr. Orozco is an advocate for enhanced public health training through strategic alignment with schools of public health and institutions which have stand-alone public health programs. Trident is currently the only 100% online institution being considered for public health accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for a stand-alone undergraduate public health degree program.
