Trident University International News: Winter Faculty and Academic College Highlights
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) February 19, 2016 -- Trident University International’s (Trident) talented faculty team – over 80% of which hold doctorate degrees – is a diverse group of high caliber academics and seasoned professionals. Through association appointments, scholarly research, published works, and conference presentations, Trident’s faculty is actively contributing to the advancement of their respective fields and finding ways to improve the student experience.
College of Health and Human Services:
Dr. Gayl M. Anglin, Faculty Lead in the Master’s of Science in Health Sciences program, currently serves as a volunteer with the Medical Reserve Corps. Earlier this year she participated in an Emergency Sheltering Exercise, which was held in conjunction with the American Red Cross, the county emergency management agency, and county animal response team. Dr. Anglin, a public health researcher with 20 years of experience in the field, is a proponent of volunteerism as a way to help her local community in Maine, as well as to educate herself on the latest public health challenges facing first responder communities.
Dr. David Smarsh, Professor in the Master of Science in Homeland Security program, took part in the Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) University and Agency Partnership Initiative (UAPI) Conference from June 8th-12th in Monterey, CA. Dr. Smarsh presented a 10-minute summary on Trident’s new Bachelor’s and Master’s in Homeland Security programs. Trident was the only 100% online university participating in the conference; other institutions who attended include Tulane University, the State University of New York, and Northeastern University.
In August, Dr. Jeffrey Smoot, Professor in the Master of Science in Health Administration program, presented at the Georgia Biomedical Instrumentation Society 2015 Technical Conference in Atlanta, GA. This annual conference offers educational, networking, and personal development opportunities to help expand the expertise of biomedical professionals.
College of Information Systems:
Dr. Mary Lind, Faculty Lead in the College of Information Systems, presented a paper at the Decision Sciences Institute Annual Meeting in Seattle in November entitled, “A Quasi-Experimental Study Comparing Smart Phone Keyboard Layouts.” Additionally, Dr. Lind had a paper published in 2015 entitled “Knowledge Transfer and Team Performance in Distributed Organizations” at the International Journal of Knowledge Based Organizations, 5 (2), 59-82. Her paper entitled, “Continued Use of Software as a Service in Organizations," has been accepted for publication in an upcoming issue of the International Journal of Operations Research and Information Systems (IJORIS).
Glenn R. Jones School of Business:
Dr. Indira Guzman, who serves as the Program Director of the Ph.D. in Business Administration program, is part of a team who had a poster presentation at the 46th ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education in Kansas City, MO, in March 2015. Dr. Guzman, who is a member of the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP), contributed to the poster CS2013 Assessment Exam. In the Fall of 2013, Dr. Guzman and the other authors of this paper were appointed to the CS2013 Assessment Council by the ICCP. This council created a standardized exam to assess computer science programs and identify areas of the curriculum that a school needs to strengthen to meet CS2013: Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Degree Programs in Computer Science, which became available starting Spring of 2015.
Dr. Joshua Shackman, Faculty Lead of the Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration program, recently had two papers accepted for publication. Co-authored with Dr. Steven Fitzgerald, Trident’s Director of Faculty Development and Dr. Ryan Savitz, a Trident Ph.D. alumnus, of Neumann College in Aston, PA, “The impact of national culture on corporate diversification” will appear in the International Journal of Business and Globalisation. Economic Modelling, which is ranked as “A-list” by the Australian Business Dean's Council, is slated to publish “Carbon dioxide emissions and interregional economic convergence in China,” which is the second paper that Dr. Shackman co-authored with Dr. Tengfei Zhang and Dr. Jun Yang, both of Chongqing University in Chongqing, China.
Dr. Qin Sun, Faculty Lead in the Master of Business Administration program, is now a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Asia Business Studies (JABS). JABS is a peer-reviewed, Scopus-ranked journal that focuses on country-specific and competitive research of Asian business and management issues. Dr. Sun’s research interests include country branding and country-of-origin image, cross-cultural marketing, bicultural/multicultural consumers, teaching innovation, and mobile marketing. Additionally, Dr. Sun published the paper “Are face-to-face classes more effective than online classes? An empirical examination,” in Marketing Education Review 25 (2) 67-81 with co-authors Ganesh, Gopala, and Audhesh K. Paswan.
Dr. Indira Guzman, Program Director of the Ph.D. in Business Administration program, co-authored a paper with Dr. James McGuffee of Northern Kentucky University and Dr. Kent Palmer of MacMurray College. “Assessing the Tier-1 Core Learning Outcomes of CS2013” has been accepted for the 47th Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education, the flagship conference of the Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), which will be held March 2nd-5th in Memphis, TN. The acceptance rate was 35.4%. Dr. Guzman’s research interests include IT in organizations, IT occupational Culture (ITOC), IT workforce, IT security workforce, and performance assessment in higher online education.
Dr. Randy Orner, faculty member in the Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor’s of Science in Human Resources Management, and Bachelor’s of Science in Leadership programs, recently published the article “Communication and customer service” in the July issue of 24x7: Technology and Service Solutions for Biomeds, which can be found on page 18.
General Education:
Dr. Heidi Fernandez, General Education Program Director and Math Faculty Lead, published the research paper “Students with Special Health Care Needs in K-12 Virtual Schools” in Educational Technology & Society, 19 (1), 67–75. This study looked at the performance of online students with special health care needs and the potential benefits online or virtual schooling can offer to this group. Co-authors include Dr. Richard E. Ferdig of the Research Center for Educational Technology at Kent State University, Dr. Lindsay A. Thompson of the College of Medicine at University of Florida, Katherine Schottke of the Research Center for Educational Technology at Kent State University, and Dr. Erik W. Black of the College of Medicine at University of Florida.
