At age 11, Kayla Martell lost her hair due to Alopecia. Yet, she dreamed of being in the Miss America pageant. She competed several times without hair, not knowing that she had options. She was proud to be herself! After a judge suggested she do something about her baldness, she searched and found her solution. Kayla jokingly says "you need hair to pin on the crown!"
Attending a focus study for women with hair loss, Kayla and national hair loss expert, Rhonda McCarthy, were shocked to hear about the women's frustrations of not knowing where to go or who to trust. Neither their doctors nor hair stylists knew what to do beyond testing to ensure there wasn't an underlying medical condition. "So many women blame themselves, thinking they did something to cause their thinning hair" says Rhonda. "Not knowing where to find help is the reason we started this national tour, now in its third year."
