Tritons Gear Up for Another Run at State with AstroTurf
San Clemente, CA (PRWEB) September 01, 2017 -- One of Orange County’s preeminent high schools is retooling with one of the world’s most iconic sports brands. San Clemente High School’s Thalassa Stadium has been resurfaced with cutting edge artificial turf from AstroTurf®. The new field was completed on July 7th, meaning the Tritons will get to show it off when they begin defense of their 2016 CIF Division 1-A state championship this fall.
The new playing surface at Thalassa Stadium is a customized version of AstroTurf’s RootZone 3DSF turf system. This premium product combines tall-pile slit film fibers for maximum durability with AstroTurf’s patented RootZone system, a sub layer of crimped fibers that support the tall turf while also stabilizing the infill. What makes it custom is that instead of using traditional crumb rubber infill, this turf has been outfitted with Green EPDM infill. It also has a Brock SP15 pad for maximum shock absorbency. Unifying all of these elements into one cohesive unit, this field is designed to deliver a safe, durable, and high-performance field with game day good looks.
“When it came time to replace the turf at Thalassa Stadium, we had some specific ideas in mind,” said John Forney, Chief Facilities Officer for Capistrano Unified School District. “AstroTurf was able to deliver a premium turf system that catered to our needs, and they did so in a timely and professional manner. ”
AFE Sports, AstroTurf’s exclusive distributor in Southern California, handled site work and turf installation for the field. AFE was the proud recipient of AstroTurf’s 2016 Dealer of the Year award. The finished field has markings for soccer as well as football.
San Clemente won the first CIF state title in the school’s 52-year history in 2016 with a come-from-behind, 22-17 victory in the championship game. Head Coach Jaime Ortiz led the Tritons to three straight CIF Section finals before winning the big one last year. San Clemente will put their new field on display in the 2017 home opener on September 1st against Huntington Beach.
