TROY celebrates its 50th anniversary as an innovator in specialty printing solutions after a year that included record sales growth, success of a new healthcare division, new product launches, a government partnership and its sixth consecutive award from business partner HP.
As it reaches this milestone, TROY Group has enjoyed the largest sales growth percentage in company history, having responded to the demands of a global security market that sees increased aggressiveness in fraud and forgery methods. Today TROY sells its solutions in more than 60 countries and has been awarded numerous patents for security toners, coatings and software solutions.
According to CEO Patrick J. Dirk, TROY has a history rich in progressive development of security printing innovations, going back to its founding in 1963 when the company introduced a unique method of manufacturing print drums for impact printers. Through the 1970’s, TROY continued developing this proprietary drum technology to create high-speed check printing systems by adding the special magnetic ink character recognition (“MICR”) characters to print drums. TROY sold these printers, with various speeds and capabilities, to banks, insurance companies and large corporations throughout the world. In 1975 the company designed the current government check and sold printers to the US Treasury, Army, Navy and Air Force for payroll, retirement and other benefit checks.
TROY introduced the first desktop laser check printer in 1986 and the solution quickly became popular with branch banks and insurance companies. In 1993, HP sought TROY’s partnership to provide its customers with MICR capabilities. That same year TROY opened its current MICR toner manufacturing facility in Wheeling, WV. Through partnership with HP, the company continued to grow as a leader in on-demand printing solutions well into the next decade.
In 2008, TROY leveraged its expertise to develop an innovative secure prescription printer. Last year, TROY formed a new division, TROY Healthcare Solutions, to focus on the company’s current prescription printing capabilities and to address new demands for enhanced secure information technology solutions in healthcare.
TROY’s milestone year included a launch of several products into new markets, including TROY UV toner and TROY UV MICR toner to the global security printing market and TROY Check Print for QuickBooks and TROY Check Print for Sage 50 to the alternative finance and tax preparation markets. TROY also expanded electronic health record system interfaces to TROY Secure Rx prescription printing solutions.
TROY was honored with HP’s 2013 Innovation in Partnership award, its 6th consecutive accolade from HP. TROY also partnered this year with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) on Operation Genesius, a corporate outreach program aimed at preventing document and identity fraud.
