Tulsa Car Accident Attorney Hansen Dirani Comments on Report about Proposed Anti-Texting While Driving Effort
Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- Commenting on a news story about proposed changes to Oklahoma law that would allow law enforcement officials to fine drivers caught texting, Tulsa car accident attorney Hansen Dirani said today he supports such tough measures to make the roads safer for everyone.

KFOR (“Okla. senator pushes for law that prohibits texting and driving”) reported on Jan. 6 that Oklahoma State Sen. Susan Paddack filed legislation against texting and driving that would allow law enforcement officials to pull over drivers caught texting and issue violators a $100 fine.
“Oklahoma passed laws in 2010 to combat distracted driving, but many drivers continue to text and make other careless decisions,” Dirani said. “Fatal accidents continue to happen as a result of distracted drivers. By passing laws that single out texting drivers and boosting public awareness over these laws, the state of Oklahoma has the ability to send a clear message to our state’s drivers that texting and driving won’t be tolerated.”
According to KFOR, 41 states have passed specific laws prohibiting texting and driving. While Oklahoma has laws against distracted driving on the books, supporters of the law told KFOR they believe that further legislation is needed to curb texting while driving, which Senator Paddack said is a “huge public safety issue” in a statement.
According to the KFOR report, the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety reported 29 distracted driving accident-related deaths in 2012. This year’s attempt to pass anti-texting legislation will be the fifth try for the state, KFOR said.
“Many scientific studies have shown that text messaging is one of the biggest distractions for drivers. Some studies find that texting and driving is more dangerous than drunk driving,” said Dirani. “It is our hope that the state of Oklahoma follows in the footsteps of 41 other states in passing legislation designed to punish texting drivers and ultimately make our roads a safer place.”
