Tulsa Car Accident Attorney Jeff Martin Comments on Recent Study Examining Texting Habits of Young Adults
Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) January 04, 2014 -- A study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety recently found that drivers 25-39 years old are more likely to text while driving than teenage drivers nationwide, a finding that came as a surprise to Tulsa, OK personal injury lawyer Jeff Martin of the Law Offices of Jeff Martin.
Martin commented on a survey about texting while driving habits by age group, which was conducted by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety (Dec. 10, 2013).
“Everyone knows what a serious problem texting while driving is among teenagers, but I don’t think anyone realized just how serious this problem is among younger adults in their 20s and 30s,” Martin said. “With so many people texting while driving on the road at the same time, the likelihood of being involved in a car accident in Oklahoma caused by a texting driver remains dangerously high. That’s why all drivers of all ages need to put down their phones and focus on the road around them.”
The study found that two out of three drivers of all ages reported using a cell phone while driving within the past month. By age group, 43 percent of drivers 25 to 39 years old reported using their cellphone while driving “fairly often.” In contrast, only 20 percent of teenage drivers 16 to 18 years old reported using their cellphone while driving “fairly often,” the study found.
As for texting while driving, the study found that 45 percent of drivers 25-39 years old admitted to texting while driving. As for teenage drivers 16 to 18 years old, 31 percent of drivers admitted to texting while driving, the study reported. The average for all ages was 26 percent of drivers reported texting while driving.
Including Oklahoma, 41 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands have laws banning texting while driving for all drivers, according to Governors Highway Safety Association website, which was last updated in December 2013.
