Tumultuous History of China Underscored in New Novel
Chapel Hill, N.C. (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- Priscilla Thomson Jackson channeled her knowledge of medicine and Chinese history in her new historical novel, “A Gryphon Year: American Surgeon in Old Canton” (published by AuthorHouse). Jackson, born in China, has drawn on her father’s and grandfather’s experience as doctors at the Canton Hospital to craft an original story.
James Galt, an American surgeon, and his wife Nell, a Canadian, dare to enter the Chinese border shortly after the Revolution of 1911. James hopes to bring modern medicine to the provinces; Nell hopes to escape with her life.
James will be challenged not only by the rampant disease and illness he encounters, but by the superstition and antiquity that serve as his obstacles. James’ resolve to save others will be tested when the Tartar General is assassinated, and Chinese factions involve James and Nell, seeking their U.S. support. James must now find a way to save Nell and himself.
Jackson’s story mirrors the political unrest still seen today as James finds himself pulled into a violent and political battle.
