Tungsten CEO Darryl Hicks Delivers Closing Remarks at Pronexia 2015 Got Culture Conference
Montreal, QC (PRWEB) July 06, 2015 -- On Thursday, June 4th, head-hunter Pronexia hosted their invitation-only, all-day “Got Culture?” conference at the Centre Phi (Phi Centre) in picturesque Old Montreal. Darryl Hicks—CEO of Tungsten Revenue Consultants, and Co-Founder of Tungsten Solutions, LLC—presented the closing address "Why Your HR is Broken and Three Ways to Fix It."
“One of the interesting things about investing in connection with your people,” Darryl explained during his presentation, “is that it’s actually a two-way street. They start to form a connection with you.”
Starting with the first-hand experience of tinkering with his own company’s culture as the foundation for his presentation, Darryl tapped insights from Albert Einstein, Seth Godin, Eric Ries, and Daniel Pink to create a compelling argument for nurturing an identity that not only attracts the right team, but repels the wrong one. Further developing his theme, he explained “the foundation of any culture is process,” emphasizing how systematizing culture can turn the soft and squishy into measurable results, by following three steps outlined in his 30-minute discourse.
Although Google and Apple are famous for investing in culture, smaller brands tend to believe it’s either beyond their scope, or not worth the effort. Addressing this common sentiment, Darryl explored how even smaller, local companies—like 360 Incentives and Roma Moulding—have achieved revenue growth by investing in their culture, too.
Following his closing remarks, Darryl invited the 120 attendees to ask him any questions about his presentation or its implementation. One attendee put up her hand and quipped, “Yes, can you hire me now?,” leading to a flurry of laughter. Several Tungsten employees were also on hand.
“When I started working exclusively for Darryl, I told him I believed the key to a successful employee-employer relationship is common values,” Aimee Hall, a Tungsten Project Manager, shared. “The fact that I’m still here four years later is proof that culture matters. It allows for autonomy because your team doesn’t have to second guess every decision.”
Jonathan Lainesse, another Tungsten Project Manager, expressed a similar sentiment after Darryl’s closing address: “I walked out of that presentation hoping someone would ask me who I work for.”
“I feel like we’re building a team where every piece is important,” agreed Jeff Pauletto, Tungsten’s Director of Products. “We wouldn’t want to lose anyone.”
