Turner Machine Boosts Company Culture By Giving Back To The Community By Building Benches
SMYRNA, Tenn., (PRWEB) June 22, 2015 -- Turner Machine, a custom machine builder and machine shop, is giving back to the community through its bench-building contest that ended Friday.
In keeping with their second quarter theme of “building the bench,” employees were divided into five groups, given a $100 budget and two weeks to build their own custom bench. Employees could either choose a charity and design their bench around that organization or freely explore their creative limits. Each bench was judged on creativity, uniqueness, team participation and charity theme or use of the Turner Machine logo.
“When creating the contests for our second quarter, we thought it would be a great teambuilding activity to build benches for our community,“ said Jeff Turner, CEO of Turner Machine. “Not only does it help bring our entire company together, but we are also able to give back to the charities and communities close to our hearts.”
The benches are being donated to Oakland High School’s mechatronics program, the City of Smyrna, Wounded Warrior foundation and the Nashville Rescue Mission. One team is selling their bench and donating the money to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Meanwhile, the winning team will receive an all-expenses paid steak dinner and two tickets apiece to a Nashville Sounds baseball game.
This contest was just one of six that have taken place during the second quarter. The other contests included creating a video to highlight the benefits of working at Turner Machine, a referral program to attract job candidates, a social media ad competition to garner “likes” and “shares," a freestyle competition where contestants had free reign to design anything they like and a contest to see who could find the most creative location around town to place a Turner Machine bumper sticker.
“One of our company values is passion to build people,” said Joy Wildes, office manager. “By holding these contests, we are helping our staff to expand their creativity, learn to successfully work with different personalities, and help further the mission of Turner Machine, all while having fun and engaging in some friendly competition.”
