Central New Yorkers are invited to meet former New York Yankee center fielder Bernie Williams for autographs and a live performance at Turning Stone Resort Casino. In addition to being a legendary baseball player, Williams is also a renowned composer and guitarist, nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2009.
Williams was a powerhouse throughout his 16 year tenure with the Yankees, winning four World Series Championships, a five-time All Star, earned the most post-season RBI’s than any other player in Major-league history, won four gold-glove awards, six American League pennants, the 1996 ALCS MVP award, and the 1998 American League batting title. Williams’ batting record is among the Yankees all-time leaders in virtually every major batting category, with legends like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio.
After his successful baseball career, Williams’ pursued his other lifelong dream of becoming an accomplished jazz guitarist. In 2003, he launched his first album, “The Journey Within,” which reached #3 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart and his second album, “Moving Forward,” debuted as Billboard’s #2 Contemporary Jazz album and held that spot for five consecutive weeks and spawned two Billboard #1 hits on the Contemporary Jazz Charts, earning Williams a Latin Grammy Award nomination. “Moving Forward” features guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada, Dave Koz, and other renowned musicians.
