TV Promos Created by Ex’pression College Graphic Design Students Selected for On-Air Usage by KBCW San Francisco
Emeryville, CA (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- Promotional clips that were created by four graphic design students from Ex’pression College, a digital arts college with campuses in San Jose and Emeryville, were selected for on-air usage by KBCW, the San Francisco CW Network affiliate. The winning clips were chosen by KBCW as part of a contest partnership between Ex’pression and KBCW.
“This was a great opportunity for our students to show – in a real world setting - just how talented they are,” says Program Director, Graphic Design & Motion at Ex'pression College Scott Hess. “All of the contest winners do great work in the classroom, and now they’ve had the opportunity to share their impressive creations with a huge TV audience. I can’t wait to see what kind of amazing things they all come up with next.”
To enter the contest, Ex’pression students were required to build a colorful and dynamic motion graphic featuring videos of KBCW StreetStars, who are fans and viewers of the CW Network, singing the “44 Cable 12” jingle. Each of the students worked on their entries for one and a half months (in between their regular school assignments), and used Adobe After Effects - a digital motion graphics, visual effects and compositing app - to create their clip.
Five second clips that were created and designed by Graphic Design & Motion students Grant Loving (35 years old, from Daly City, CA), Sean Mangosing (33, from Richmond, CA), and Jacob Pryor (19, from Brentwood, CA) were aired during KBCW programming. A fifteen second 3D clip by David Whitmer (29, from Hercules, CA) was chosen as the top entry, and was aired in prime time during the broadcast of the drama/superhero series “Arrow.”
“What I enjoyed the most about creating the KBCW promo was animating the objects to look as if they were springing out of the StreetStars,” says Whitmer. “It was a fantastic opportunity that Ex'pression made possible, and it gave me the kind of real world experience that companies will be looking for when I begin my job search next year.”
