Twenty Films to Vie for $20,000 in 168 Film Festival
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 02, 2014 -- Twenty competitors from the international field of the 168 Film Festival have been named finalists, it was announced by 168 Executive Director, John David Ware. Hoping to win a share of $20,000 in cash and prizes, filmmakers delivered a 10-minute short based on a randomly assigned scripture in one week.
Films will screen at the Aratani Japanese Theater, Downtown Los Angeles on Friday Sept. 12 from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Saturday Sept. 13 from 10:00am – 5:00pm. Saturday includes a Red Carpet ceremony packed with stars from 5:30pm - 7:00pm and the Awards Show at 7:30pm.
Tickets are on sale now at http://168project.com. Prices range from $15-59, with an All Festival Pass priced at $39. The Saturday ticket includes the Awards Show. VIP passes and group, student and senior discounts are available. Parental discretion is suggested for children under 12, but a block of kid’s films suitable for younger ages will be scheduled.
The finalists in the Signature Speed Film category boast 13 dramas, 5 comedies (two of which star 4-time Emmy Winner from the cast of THE WALTONS, Michael Learned), a western and a crime thriller.
International teams are well represented including crime drama LAKE OF FIRE by Andrew Thorn from Australia (Team 12), father-son drama CIPTA GELAR (In The Open) by Frederick Wattimena from Indonesia (Team 27) and two entries from South Africa: medical thriller TULA TULA by Diane Vermooten (Team 34) and Kubrick-ian space romp comedy SKYWATCH: THE DUSTER OF DOOM by John DeVries (Team 38).
The USA out-of-towners are strong, starting with social-justice-minded drama MCKENZIE'S GIFTS by Robert Springer III (Team 4) from Jacksonville, FL, fantasy-family drama THE BEAUTIFUL EXCHANGE by Andrew Garces (Team 10) from New York, NY, troubled child drama WE CHOOSE YOU by Michael Head (Team 39) from Richardson, TX and romantic speed-dating comedy FINDING HER by Jessica Chaney (Team 42) from Memphis, TN.
The final twelve are California teams including well-tied-up comedy THE PARCEL by April Manor (Team 3), the electric laugh-fest UNPLUGGED by James Runcorn (Team 19), reeking-of-humor comedy THE NOSE JOB by Christopher Shawn Shaw (Team 7) and culinary dramedy THE MANTLE OF GRANNY BELLE by Travis Grenke (Team 25).
168 veteran Jason Rodriguez (Team 5) is back in the saddle with father-son western drama RIDE ON and Rick Marcus (Team 24) THE RANCH lends a hand. Joseph Robinson (Team 29) aces the test with upstart student drama AYAAN.
INSULIN is sweet for producer Jonathan Moch (Team 36), CLARISSA'S GIFT keeps on giving for Millena Gay (Team 45), CROSSING OVER zig-zags Henry Wong (Team 48) into the finals, baby shower drama WHAT SHOWERS BRING freshens Daniel Furukawa’s outlook (Team 49) and CAUGHT INSIDE reels in the nod for producer Gary Zelasko (Team 50).
Award Nominees and all “Non-Speed” films including Documentaries, KidVids and Student Film categories, and the Evangelista Award Films will be announced in mid-July.
