Two MI Windows Facilities Achieve OSHA VPP Star Status for Superior Safety Programs
GRATZ, Penn. (PRWEB) October 17, 2017 -- For the second time in just under two months, an MI Windows and Doors facility has achieved the highest possible honor for employee safety – the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star. The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) has awarded MI’s facility in Prescott Valley, AZ, with the VPP Star distinction. Prescott Valley joins MI’s Gratz, PA, facility in achieving a VPP Star. Very few companies can claim to have multiple sites that are VPP rated.
The VPP Star is bestowed by OSHA to those work sites that demand exacting standards for employee safety. Out of eight million job sites in the U.S., only 2,200 have earned the VPP Star – that’s 0.028 percent.
“For the past two years, the local leaders have poured their hearts and souls into engaging with the team to embrace a safety-first culture, to improve our physical work environment and to implement numerous hazard prevention ideas,” said MI Windows COO Mike DeSoto. “I was choked up with joy to see the raw excitement of the team when the results were announced. We all know the work never stops, but I sincerely congratulate the team for this huge accomplishment.”
Not only did Prescott Valley grab the VPP Star, but it became the first window fabricator in Arizona to achieve this. It is also one of the very few work sites in Arizona outside of the Phoenix and Tucson areas to become designated as VPP Star.
The recent announcement, followed a three-day evaluation by a team from ADOSH. During the audit, the ADOSH team – which was led by Assistant Director Jessie Atencio and included Industrial Hygienists Bruce Hanna and Michael Martin and Safety Consultant Brandon Stowell – listened to team member presentations, toured the factory, and conducted dozens of interviews.
“Here’s where the work actually begins,” Atencio said following the announcement. “You have to sustain it.”
“It was definitely a team effort involving all of our team members,” said Michael Reinert, the General Manager at MI’s Prescott Valley facility. “We’re excited to be named as a VPP Star, but we know this is just the beginning. We’ll continue to get better every day.”
