Two Oceanhouse Media Digital Book Apps Win Parents’ Choice Gold Award
Encinitas, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Oceanhouse Media, Inc. in partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P., has been selected as a winner of two prestigious Parents’ Choice Gold Awards for the book apps “Ice is Nice: All About the North and South Poles” and “On Beyond Bugs!: All About Insects”, both part of the Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library series. The Gold Award is the highest honor awarded by the Parents’ Choice Foundation, the nation's oldest nonprofit program created to distinguish quality children's media since 1978.
“We are honored to have the Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library digital book apps recognized with two prestigious Parents’ Choice Gold Awards,” said Michel Kripalani, president and CEO of Oceanhouse Media. “Less than 20% of the products submitted to the Parents’ Choice Awards program receive any level of accolade, so we are thrilled to be dually recognized as a Gold Award winner.”
The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library is a bestselling nonfiction book series from Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books that introduces children to basic science concepts including dinosaurs, maps, marine life, outer space and much more. Oceanhouse Media began adapting the series to digital book apps for iOS devices in November of 2011, launching with “There’s No Place Like Space!: All About our Solar System.” The apps feature animated objects, instant glossary terms, and interactive diagrams to reinforce specific subjects, all led by classic Dr. Seuss characters including the Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two, and even the fish! The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library digital book apps are meticulously designed to promote learning and encourage curiosity in young readers.
“We have worked diligently with Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books to create this line of digital book apps that focus on education,” said Kripalani, “Our goal is to properly utilize the digital medium to create an unparalleled learning experience for children, while keeping them engaged with fun rhymes and familiar characters.”
The mission of the Parents' Choice Foundation is to search out and recommend products that help kids grow - imaginatively, physically, morally and mentally - fairly priced products that are fun, safe and socially sound. Gold Awards are delegated to products that are judged as the highest quality, most appealing products in their genre.
“Ice is Nice!” invites readers on an icy cold expedition to the North and South Poles! Children can mingle with native animals like reindeer, polar bears, and penguins and learn about concepts such as how the Earth’s orbit around the sun affects seasons. The Parents' Choice Gold Award adds to a list of merits for this app, including an Editor's Choice Award from Children's Technology Review.
“On Beyond Bugs!” teaches children everything there is to know about insects, from butterflies and crickets to fireflies and honeybees, exploring how they see, smell, communicate, and pollinate.
Nine other titles currently join "Ice is Nice" and “On Beyond Bugs!” in the Cat in the Hat's Learning Library series in the App Store, with many more exciting subjects on the way.
About Dr. Seuss Enterprise, L.P.
Dr. Seuss Enterprises was founded in 1993 following the death of Theodor S. Geisel, Dr. Seuss, to conserve and nurture the works of Dr. Seuss by protecting the integrity of the Dr. Seuss books while expanding beyond books into licensed merchandise. The licensing effort is a strategic part of the overall effort to strengthen and protect the relationship consumers have with Dr. Seuss characters. Theodor Geisel said he never wanted to license his characters to anyone who would “round out the edges”. That is one of the guiding philosophies of Dr. Seuss Enterprises. Audrey S. Geisel, the widow of Dr. Seuss, heads Dr. Seuss Enterprises as CEO.
