Two-Time Slam Dunk Champ and NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins Launches Official Website
Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- Dominique Wilkins, NBA Hall of Famer and Nine Time NBA All-Star, officially launched his website, DominiqueWilkins21.com. Most commonly known as the Human Highlight film, Dominique put his name on the map by winning the Slam-Dunk Championship at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
Before taking the NBA by storm, Dominique dominated the basketball scene while playing at Washington High School by winning back-to-back MVP for the team's consecutive Class 3-A State Championships. This led to him starring in the McDonald's Game, The Capital Classic, The Kentucky Derby Festival Classic, and The Dapper Dan Classic All-Star Games.
After his success in the high school ranks, he entered the University of Georgia in 1979 where he established a reputation as an exciting player. Wilkins lived up to that hype as he averaged 21.6 points a game over his career and was named SEC Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 1981. He decided to enter the NBA Draft after his junior year and was selected third overall (behind James Worthy and Terry Cummings) by the Utah Jazz in the 1982 NBA Draft.
Shortly after being drafted by the Utah Jazz, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks where he exploded into the NBA's elite circle. In 1985-86, Wilkins won the league scoring title with an average of 30.3 points per game and was voted to the All-NBA First Team. Things only continued to look up for Dominique as the Hawks signed 5-foot-7 Anthony "Spud" Webb prior to the season. Wilkins and his co-star turned the Hawks fortunes around in dramatic fashion by winning 16 more games in the 1985–86 season to finish 50-32 for the year.
Wilkins went on to play eleven seasons with the Hawks, and also had short stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Orlando Magic before he retired in 1999. Wilkins registered 26,668 points and 7,169 rebounds in his NBA career and with those incredible stats was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
Since retiring from NBA, Dominique has found his true calling after an unexpected diagnosis of Type II Diabetes at the age of 40. Since his diagnosis, Dominique has become an active member in the diabetes community educating and raising awareness as a diabetes speaker.
