Type 1 Diabetes Community Pursues Dramatic Increase in Diabetes Cure Research
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 08, 2015 -- On September 8, 2015, the Juvenile Diabetes Cure Alliance announced the launch of a petition calling on JDRF and the ADA, the two largest diabetes charities, to substantially increase funding for type 1 diabetes cure research.
In 2014, JDRF and the ADA raised over $400 million in the United States, primarily through direct donations and fundraising events such as JDRF’s One Walk and the ADA’s Step Out to Stop Diabetes. However, only 7% of the money raised is being spent on cure research.
“People with type 1 diabetes and their families walk, bike, donate, and volunteer primarily to support cure research. This petition hopes to restore a genuine focus on cure research and create some self-reflection at these organizations," said JDCA General Manager Phil Shaw.
The goal of the petition is to increase cure research funding from 7% of all donations to 30%, which should drive many more high quality research projects into human trials, and one step closer to market.
