U.S. Department of Commerce Issues HySpecIQ License for Commercial Hyperspectral System
Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 24, 2015 -- HySpecIQ, a startup commercial venture aimed at expanding the availability and quality of hyperspectral information to customers, and increasing its value through advanced analytics and mission focused information products, today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce has approved their application and has issued a license for HySpecIQ’s commercial hyperspectral system.
HySpecIQ is very pleased to have received the first commercial remote sensing license to hyperspectral imagery products and appreciative of the work that the U.S. Department of Commerce did in collaboration with U.S. National Security elements to get the license issued. This license sets precedence for a first of a kind hyperspectral imaging satellite system to deliver finished products to government and commercial customers. Bill Sullivan, HySpecIQ’s Executive Chairman said, “NOAA has issued our company a license that explicitly enables HySpecIQ to deliver high resolution hyperspectral intelligence products to meet the needs of our critical industry partners: US government defense and security, agriculture, forestry, environmental, mineral, oil, gas, exploration land management and insurance industries. This license enables HySpecIQ to work closely with our customers to develop unique data products to improve operational efficiencies in their industries.”
HySpecIQ’s unprecedented system will provide valuable insights in a number of key markets; picking up where conventional imagery leaves off. This high resolution hyperspectral system goes beyond identifying objects by their shape and texture as is done by conventional imaging and instead distinguishes what the objects are made of. The system’s contiguous broad spectral coverage and high fidelity surpasses even multispectral systems which are somewhat limited in scope and accuracy in their detection of materials. Hyperspectral systems provide the further capability to explicitly and accurately identify materials of all kinds. This capability and the potential it holds for various markets is not speculative as it has been proven through the use of aerial collection platforms on a necessarily limited scale. HySpecIQ’s satellite based system deploys this proven capability on a global scale. Proven technology with timely coverage is what makes HySpecIQ’s system so valuable in a number of applications and is why attaining this license is so significant.
HySpecIQ’s system is currently in development under a fixed price contract with Boeing. The first of the initial two satellite constellation is planned to be operational in early 2018 with the second satellite following later that year.
“With this license in hand, the tremendous progress being made by the development team, and the keen interest by customers representing numerous markets, this program is exceeding expectations,” said Bill Schuster Chief Operating Officer of HySpecIQ. “We’re looking forward to bringing this highly useful capability to our customers and to discovering the additional and valuable applications which it will enable.”
