U.S. Security Associates Employees Commemorate September 11
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) September 11, 2015 -- “Every year on September 11, at precisely 8:46 a.m., I stop wherever I am for a few personal moments of silence. Depending on my surroundings, I have been known to yell out as loud as I can, ‘NEVER FORGET!’” admits Craig Meredith, a national account manager with the security company U.S. Security Associates (USA).
With the anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaching, U.S. Security Associates invited employees to share ways they commemorate and pay tribute. The security company has many active and retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, and military service personnel in its ranks, including Darren Claphan, USA’s senior director of client engagement. Claphan is a Marine Corps veteran who was attending Marine Corps Sniper School on September 11, 2001. He went on to complete a tour of duty in Iraq as a team leader. His team is coming together again for this special 9/11 memorial workout in honor of the 9/11 victims and their families:
• 4,811 combined push-ups and air squats between 4 people (for the 4,811 service members killed in Iraq)
• 2,753 jump rope (for the 2,753 service members killed in Afghanistan)
• 125 burpees (for the 125 killed at the Pentagon)
• 44 pull-ups (for the 44 killed on Flight 93)
• 343 4-count flutter kicks (for the 343 fallen NYFD)
• 71 box jumps (for the 71 fallen NYPD)
• 9.11 mile run or 9.11 kilometer row
Claphan and his team plan to start early, finish the workout by 8:46 a.m., when the first plane hit the North Tower, then spend the next 17 minutes in reflection until 9:03 a.m., when the second plane hit the South Tower.
At the World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial is commemorating the 14th anniversary of 9/11 with its annual Tribute in Light. The Memorial Plaza is open to the public on September 11 from 3pm until midnight for a special viewing of the Tribute of Light. Resembling the Twin Towers, the illuminated memorial is four miles high and visible from 60 miles away on a clear night.
911memorial.org lists ideas for people everywhere to join millions in New York in commemorating the victims and heroes of 9/11. Suggestions include writing letters of appreciation to first responders, creating care packages for military service personnel, and performing acts of service, like volunteering at a shelter or collecting donations for those in need. Planting a garden, painting a mural, or dedicating a bench to the victims of 9/11 are other ways to create a lasting memorial and ensure the men, women, and children who died are never forgotten.
