UC Irvine Extension Offers Leadership Course and Webinar
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) November 11, 2013 -- University of California, Irvine Extension announced today that it will offer “Leading Small Groups,” an online course designed to help participants develop better communication skills within small group contexts. The course is part of UC Irvine Extension’s Organizational Leadership and Communication Certificate Program and starts on Jan. 2. Offered on Nov. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PST, a free webinar titled, “10 Steps for a Successful Leader Transition” will offer insight into how common sense rules can help leaders taking on new or transitioning roles.
“Establishing essential leadership skills is crucial for business professionals of all industries,” said Tom Pokladowski, Esq., director of law, finance and business programs at UC Irvine Extension. “With more than 30 years in leadership and management roles, course instructor and webinar host, Christopher Holley provides a comprehensive course curriculum on refining leadership skills.”
By exploring communication processes that are central to leading meetings and working in teams, course participants will gain improved problem solving and decision making skills, effectively facilitate group communication and utilize communication strategies for cooperation and collaboration. The course will cover developing leadership in teams, team vision and goals, meeting facilitation skills, active listening skills, increasing creativity, working collaboratively, building trust, and relationships and cohesiveness within a group setting. Course content on managing roles, group norms, conflict and groupthink will also be covered.
Course instructor, Holley, ABD, MBA, SPHR, CLET is the owner and president of Holley Business Solutions. As an experienced instructor providing leadership and management education, training and services to a wide range of companies, Holley has worked with leaders from various industries. He has taught employees, supervisors, managers and executives for the ICE Academy’s Leadership Development Center for the Department of Homeland Security in Dallas, Texas and at many local colleges and universities.
