UC San Diego Extension Names John B.B. Freeman As Director of Communications
La Jolla, CA (PRWEB) June 14, 2014 -- UC San Diego Extension, the continuing education and public programs arm of the university, has named John B.B. Freeman as Director of Communications.
Freeman’s primary role is to increase awareness among a wide range of community and university partners of the vital role of Extension’s programs and services in integrating the collective knowledge of community leaders and professionals to the university.
The announcement was made by Mary L. Walshok, associate vice chancellor for public programs and dean of Extension.
“UC San Diego Extension is increasingly enhancing the university’s local impact, national reputation and international reach,” said Dean Walshok. “John’s role will be to help effectively communicate the full range and scope of what we provide our students, the university and the wider community.”
A native of San Diego, Freeman earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arizona and a professional certificate in marketing from UC San Diego Extension.
He is a former columnist/writer with the San Diego Union-Tribune with more than two decades of experience in various media relations roles, including with a San Diego-based luxury yacht firm and in New York City with the National Basketball Association and the New York Yankees.
Prior to his permanent appointment, Freeman served in an interim basis at UC San Diego Extension for five months.
UC San Diego Extension educates more than 33,000 people a year through more than 4,300 courses, offered on-campus and online. Extension students, nearly 80 percent of whom have undergraduate degrees, enroll in next-level courses and professional certificate programs to enhance their knowledge and skills for today’s ever-changing workplace and global economy.
