UCode Computer Science School for K-12 Students Celebrates the Grand Opening of Its Newest Center in La Cañada Flintridge
(PRWEB) July 06, 2015 -- Today, UCode celebrates the grand opening of its new location in La Cañada Flintridge (468 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011). The newest center features more than 30 learning stations, a robotics area, and space for tech camps and theme parties.
The community is welcome to an Open House on Saturday, July 11 from noon to 4 p.m. Visitors can experience the curriculum first hand, meet the staff, and enjoy some refreshments.
Scott Mueller, CEO and founder of UCode, explained that the company's vision is to fully realize the potential in every child for higher-order thinking and problem solving through coding, and to empower those kids to be the best innovators and creators. He founded the company to address the lack of computer science education for kids.
"Learning to code is one of the most important skills we can teach kids today," said Mueller. "It teaches critical thinking and problem solving skills that everyone needs for success in school, college and career. We believe starting at a young age provides the greatest benefit."
Russell Juma, St. Francis High School alumni and co-founder of the school's World Champion VEX Robotics Team, is the campus director. Juma, who is also a graduate of UC Berkeley, most recently worked as La Cañada's Learning Ladder IT director and as an instructor.
"I joined UCode because it's a company that combines education with technology," he said. "Having been part of the first AP computer class at St. Francis High School, I was inspired early on to be involved in technology. We anticipate that computer languages will one day be an option to fulfill college preparatory requirements, so kids will need to know coding and programming to be competitive. Parents who share this vision of the future will be giving their children the unique skill set to be competitive."
UCode emphasizes individualized instruction with teachers, project-based curriculum, and an interactive learning environment that keeps kids engaged. Kids and teens learn how to code and create apps, websites, video games, robotics, mod Minecraft and more. Whether a new student who just learned to read or is already creating money-earning apps, UCode guides them from the fundamentals of coding all the way to professional software development with multiple learning tracks including MIT Scratch and App Inventory, JavaScript, Java, Ruby on Rails and C++.
