UK Freelancers Turn to Innovative New Platform, CherishedIdeas.com, to Avoid Excessive Fees and Scams for Online Jobs
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 24 January 2014 -- Technorati called 2013 the “Era of the Freelancer,” and 2014 brings even more opportunity to those armed with a laptop, Wi-Fi and a willingness to work.
According to research commissioned by PCG in November 2013, there has been a 45% rise in the number of individuals working in the freelance sector across Europe. This figure makes freelancing the fastest growing sector of the labour market.
Advances in technology and changes in lifestyle have helped fuel this digital transformation of the workplace. Unfortunately, despite all the perks that exist for those entrepreneurs that have struck out on their own, there are also a number of problems that commonly plague freelancers.
Contract workers typically face uncertainty when it comes to where their next job will come from. Not only that, but it’s common for these workers to earn less than their counterparts who are traditionally employed performing the same duties.
In July 2013, the Economist reported that freelancers earn on average, £5.58. One should consider, however, that freelancers usually don’t have to pay travel expenses, fancy office space, and upkeep on a stylish wardrobe.
Many contract workers find work through sites like PeoplePerHour.com, Freelancer.com and oDesk.com. These and other similar sites typically charge fees or commissions per job, but offer workers a measure of security because wages are often “escrowed” to ensure that payment is made at the end of each contract. Unfortunately, many find jobs through other avenues, and most freelancers have a story or two about wages not being paid properly.
“There is a lot of hype surrounding a number of freelance sites, but unfortunately, they don’t always deliver on what they promise and they often overcharge for their services,” explained Simon Knapp, CEO of Cherished Ideas.
“We designed our site, http://www.cherishedideas.com to eliminate commissions and have instead instituted a simple annual fee. It’s easy to navigate, and both companies and freelancers know that it’s a great place to connect.”
Freelancers are vulnerable to uncertainty when it comes to finding work and getting paid. But for many, it’s worth the risk of forgoing the daily grind of a “9 to 5”.
