UL and Health World Expand Online Safety Education Offering Six New Programs to the Safety Smart® eLearning Library
Northbrook, Illinois (PRWEB) June 19, 2015 -- UL, a world leader in advancing safety, has once again partnered with Health World to add six additional Safety Smart programs to Health World’s 21st eLearning platform. The programs educate students by engaging them in safety lesson plans using digital resources available via Health World’s eLearning. The eLearning platform allows teachers to plug health and safety lesson plans right into their classrooms. The eLearning environment blends digital instruction with classroom activities and assignments.
In an effort to help keep children safe and healthy around the world, UL partnered with The Walt Disney Company to develop Safety Smart. Safety Smart is an award-winning multi-lingual global program that features a series of educational and entertaining safety animations and lesson plans. Safety Smart is designed to educate, engage and empower children to practice safe, healthy and environmentally responsible behavior. By encouraging safety awareness and providing opportunities for children to practice smart behaviors Safety Smart helps children and families learn to make more informed choices today and in the future.
The initial program launch in the spring of 2014 allowed teachers nationwide to access the Safety Smart programs including Disney’s Wild About Safety® with Timon and Pumbaa: At Home!, About Fire!, In the Water! and Goes Green! and Safety Smart Science with Bill Nye the Science Guy®: Electricity! and Fire! via Health World’s eLearning Delivery System. In the first year Health World and UL reached more than 500,000 students in all 50 states.
Building off last year’s success, UL and Health World are delighted to announce six new programs have been added to the Safety Smart library. Those include: Disney’s Wild About Safety® with Timon and Pumbaa: Healthy & Fit!, Honest & Real!, Online! and On the Go!, and Safety Smart Science with Bill Nye the Science Guy®: Germs & Your Health! and Renewable Energy! Educators across the nation can now add these six new comprehensive lesson plans which include, video programs and digitally facilitated resources, to their classroom course selections.
As part of UL’s public safety mission, UL continues to work with Health World to help ensure 21st century readiness for every student. Health World’s eLearning Delivery System provides the foundation teachers need for today’s students and Safety Smart delivers the curriculum and instruction. The key is to provide digitally facilitated lesson plans in a format that seamlessly integrate into classroom environments.
“Our goal remains constant,” said Barbara Guthrie, UL’s Chief Public Safety Officer. “To educate, engage and empower children and young people to manage their surroundings by conscious action, not chance. UL is thrilled to add these new Safety Smart programs to the eLearning platform to expand teacher resources on a national scale.”
“Teachers love the format of the platform because the programs and activities plug right into classroom lesson plans with little need for preparation time,” said Peter Rusin, executive director of Health World. “The platform allows learning to be an active process for students, not a passive one,” shared Rusin. “Through Health World’s eLearning platform we bring engaging lessons into the classroom, replacing the pen and paper of yesterday.”
Unintentional injuries remain the leading cause of death for children. “Working together for the safety and well-being of children makes this such an important initiative, one that mirrors the missions of both UL and Health World,” stated Guthrie. “Working collaboratively with Health World will allow us to provide teachers with the information they need to help students build healthy, safe lives.”
