Ultimate Engine Enters the University of Texas in Austin's Longhorn Energy Club Oil and Gas Energy Competition
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) February 18, 2015 -- Ultimate Engine is competing in the Oil and Gas sector of the Energy Technology Competition presented by the Longhorn Energy Club and being held at the UT Alumni Center at the university, going for a portion of the $100,000 in cash and prizes; and, a one year appointment in the Austin Technology Incubator. The competition is being held to support the development of new companies, like Ultimate Engine that hold promise for commercialization in the field of energy.

The Energy Technology Competition at the University of Texas in Austin on February 18th during the UT Energy Week has selected the best emerging new energy technologies across four categories: Oil and Gas, Cleantech, Water and Resources, and Software for presentation to the active angel investing and venture capital network in Austin and some of the leading figures in the world's global energy industry, along with registered UT Energy Week participants.
The competition will be judged by: Becky Taylor, Shell Technology Ventures; Zeina El-Azzi, Sun Edison; Kirk Colburn, SURGE Ventures; Farshid Arman, Siemens TTB; Mitch Jacobson, Austin Technology Incubator.

Free-piston engines are unlike conventional engines, having no crankshaft to control the movement of their pistons, yet offer the promise of lighter weight, more powerful engines. Ultimate Engine claims to have overcome all the problems in regard to free-piston engine development, citing that they have created the "ultimate" in: design simplicity; power density (power to weight ratio); versatility; and mechanical and thermal efficiencies.
The efficiency of positive displacement engines is largely determined by the compression ratio. The Ultimate engine's long piston stroke accomplishes ratios greater than 40 to 1, potentially being capable of combined efficiencies in the 70% range, according to newly completed engineering performed by the company.
The Ultimate Engine is the brainchild of Physicist and Inventor Robert D. Hunt who is the holder of several important patent pending processes that are integrated into its design such as: Exhaust Actuation being a method to run the engine without the need of electrical power; the Sprague Gear Transmission being a method to convert linear motion to rotation in a single direction; Hydraulic Breaking and Synchronization being a method to prevent the pistons from slamming into the cylinder walls and to keep them working in unison.

Mr. Hunt started his career as an employee of Tenneco's Oil's shipbuilding division as a Nuclear Engineer within its elite New Nuclear Design Department that was responsible for the creation of the nuclear reactors for the USS Nimitz Aircraft Carrier, which became the "Nimitz Class" that includes nine American carriers due to its enormously successful design. Robert is the Founder and inspirational genius behind Ultimate Engine’s technology, having spent the past 12 years on its development. He is the holder of the patents related to the technology used to control the timing and the movement of the engine’s pistons.
Robert presented a Ted Talk at the renowned Austin City Limits stage in 2010 discussing his life as an energy inventor describing many of his most notable inventions in detail.
