UNCF Hosts Its Fourth Annual Mayor's Masked Ball DC
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 02, 2016 -- The Washington Area Office of UNCF (United Negro College Fund), in partnership with the District of Columbia, will host the fourth annual UNCF Washington Mayor’s Masked Ball on Saturday, March 5, at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Hosted by District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, and chaired by Glenn and Debra Mahone, the event will bring together 500 business, civic and education leaders who support UNCF’s work in providing area students with the resources to get to and through college.

Lomax, UNCF president and CEO. “Understanding the importance of these investments will pay dividends for all of us when deserving students become the next generation of leaders that the nation’s capital—and the country—needs in the future.”
“I am honored to host the District’s second annual UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball,” said Mayor Bowser. “We want to ensure that youth in the District have a pathway to the middle class, and that begins with a good education. As a result of the UNCF’s efforts, young people across the nation will get a fair shot and the opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
With the commitment of its sponsors, UNCF awarded nearly 400 scholarships totaling $3.6 million to students from the Washington-Maryland-Virginia area last academic year. UNCF also distributed more than $5 million last year to thousands of students who attend colleges across Washington, Virginia and Maryland.
This year’s event sponsors include Vonage, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Steve Canton, Southwest Airlines, Carmen Group, Pepco, DC09, JMA Solutions and Turner Construction. Masked Awards will be presented to A. Scott Bolden, Mount Zion Baptist Church of Arlington, Va. and Sodexo, for their commitment to advancing education efforts.

The UNCF Washington Mayor’s Masked Ball will kick off with a VIP reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 7 p.m. It concludes with the headlining group, Morris Day and the Time, which had a featured role in Prince’s classic 1984 rock musical “Purple Rain.”
