UNCF Wichita Mayor’s Luncheon Builds Stronger Communities Through Education
(PRWEB) October 05, 2017 -- Educational opportunities are the focus of the second annual UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Wichita Mayor’s Luncheon to be held at noon on October 5 at the Hyatt Regency. More than 100 community leaders, including the event host, the Honorable mayor Jeff Longwell and event chair, the Honorable vice mayor LaVonta Williams, will attend the event benefiting Kansas students and UNCF-member institutions.
“I urge you to help us in our quest to support educational opportunity growth in our community,” said Longwell. “The funds raised at this luncheon will help students in our community to pursue their dreams and raise themselves, and as a result, our city and region, up through increased knowledge and personal achievement.”
Understanding the importance of expanding pathways to better futures, UNCF Koch Scholar and Wichita native Marshall Johnson will drive the conversation through a Q&A session. Currently a junior at Wichita State University, Johnson represents the countless number of students benefiting from the community’s investment in paying it forward.
Through scholarships and other academic support, UNCF is committed to minority students who have an interest in developing and applying an entrepreneurial mindset to their career pursuits. More than half a million dollars in scholarships have been awarded to students attending colleges in Kansas and, with the help of this year’s sponsors, Cox Communications, Wichita State University, Wichita Ministerial League and longtime supporter Koch Industries, UNCF will continue to raise awareness on the benefit of investing in the next generation of leaders.
Akeam Ashford, KWCH 12 Eyewitness News, will serve as master of ceremonies for the luncheon featuring a student testimonial from Darrell Allison, Wichita State University, class of 2021.
To purchase tickets, which are $50, please contact the UNCF St. Louis local office at 314.241.5958. If you are unable to attend but want to make a difference in a student’s life, text UNCFSTL to 50555.
