Undercover Investigations Explained by Danbee Investigations CEO Barry Brandman during SupplyChainBrain's Interview
Fair Lawn, New Jersey (PRWEB) July 09, 2015 -- The recent CBS hit show Undercover Boss has placed the spotlight on this confidential investigative technique, which has previously kept a low profile.
At the 38th annual Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) conference that was held in Orlando, Florida in May 2015, Barry Brandman, CEO of Danbee Investigations, was interviewed by SupplyChainBrain about his presentation “Undercover Boss – Distribution Center Edition”, asking him to explain the role of undercover investigations in the corporate supply chain.
“We have been quietly conducting undercover operations for over 25 years. However, with the popularity of Undercover Boss, it’s become a hot topic”, explained Barry Brandman. “Our clients are both publicly traded and privately held entities, from a vast array of industries and they all find the undercover intelligence extremely beneficial”.
“An undercover investigation is like taking an MRI of your business. You’ll learn what is really taking place on the inside. I think that’s why so many of the executives who have appeared on Undercover Boss found it to be one of the most significant experiences of their careers. Even CEO’s who considered themselves extremely hands-on admitted that the insight they gained from going undercover was extraordinary, learning much more than they ever expected”.
“Our undercover investigations have literally exposed millions of dollars that were being drained from company bottom lines as a result of inventory loss, fraud, time theft, collusion, embezzlement, lax supervision, poor productivity, violations of company policies, deliberate destruction of company assets, workplace substance abuse and other related problems. Many of these issues had been going on undetected for months and even years. Being able to expose and eliminate them has allowed our clients to run their companies far more efficiently and profitably”.
During Mr. Brandman’s presentation at the WERC conference, he illustrated many of the lessons learned by referring to actual case studies taken from Danbee’s confidential undercover investigation files. In one of these investigations, the undercover operative exposed a theft ring inside a distribution center that was stealing nearly a half million dollars a year of inventory. Executives were stumped as to how this product was vanishing until the undercover reports revealed a devious scam that several of their warehouse personnel and truckers had devised. Danbee’s undercover operative was able to penetrate the theft ring, which led to the apprehension of all those involved and the company being reimbursed through their theft insurance coverage.
“Undercover provides senior executives with ongoing intelligence about operational as well as security-related issues that impact profitability”, explained Mr. Brandman. “In the CBS television show, the CEO personally goes undercover. Obviously, this isn’t a realistic option for most. However, receiving our confidential undercover reports is equally, if not even more effective.
