Understanding Propane Gas Safety
Gloucester, VA (PRWEB) December 24, 2013 -- Have a propane gas stove, fireplace or other appliance in your home? In its new Blog, and a new series of educational posts on safety, Phillips Energy, Inc. recently advised propane gas consumers to educate themselves on the warning signs of a propane leak.
“Here at Phillips Energy, there is no question what comes first – safety,” Phillips Energy wrote on its Blog. “But safety doesn't stop with us. It's important to understand what to do if you suspect that your propane gas may be leaking.”
Propane gas, Phillips Energy explained, is invisible to the eye. However, there are other ways to detect a leak through sight and smell.
“If there is a leak, the scent of propane will resemble rotten eggs, a skunk's spray, or a dead animal,” Phillips Energy wrote.
Because propane is hard to detect for some, Phillips Energy recommends purchasing a propane gas detector.
As for sight, Phillips Energy recommends looking first to see if a propane gas appliance’s pilot light is on.
“If your system's pilot light repeatedly goes out or is very difficult to light, there may be a problem,” Phillips Energy wrote. “If your pilot light is out, do not attempt to fix the problem by yourself.”
