Unicon Assists Indian River State College in Deploying Student Success Plan Pilot
Gilbert, AZ (PRWEB) October 28, 2013 -- Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting, services, and support provider, specializing in open source for the education technology market, today announced the successful implementation of the Student Success Plan (SSP) pilot at Indian River State College (IRSC), which has been expanded this fall based on favorable summer results. SSP is a holistic intervention coaching and counseling model, with case management software. The college is taking advantage of the Early Alert SSP feature, in which faculty and staff identify student challenges and send Early Alerts with their reasons and recommendations to engage the appropriate intervention staff. Advisors/Counselors may develop a formal action plan to provide the students with step-by-step directions and date-specific tasks to get back on track. The Early Alert tool provides a feedback loop to the originator to encourage long-term engagement. IRSC has branded their instance of SSP as “River Support,” with the Early Alerts known as “ReachOuts.”
IRSC has received positive feedback from both students and faculty. Students involved in River Support have expressed appreciation of the new form of support they are receiving. IRSC faculty are enthusiastic about the effective interactions between advisors, faculty, and students that SSP promotes.
“We have seen positive and promising results in our initial pilot phase of RiverSupport, our new Retention Management System,” said Teresa Hawker, Retention and Success Coordinator for IRSC. “This integrated network of IRSC support and resources has resulted in many at-risk students successfully completing their courses. We look forward to expanding the pilot, reaching even more students and providing them with the essential resources that RiverSupport, our SSP system, offers to support student success.”
SSP is designed to improve retention, academic performance, persistence, graduation rates, and time to degree. Through counseling, web-based support systems, and proactive intervention techniques, students are identified, supported and monitored. SSP can be used with any targeted population of students, such as at-risk students or athletes. SSP is open source software, which allows Indian River and other institutions to customize the system as needed.
